How to harness the power of essential oils
Using the highly concentrated extracts of plants and flowers to boost health and mood has been practised since ancient Egyptian times – and it’s more popular than ever.
From encouraging sleep to alleviating stress, we’re all buzzing about the benefits of essential oils.
And the latest trend is bespoke oil blends crafted using Australia’s own native botanicals, like Waratah, Banksia flower and Kakadu plum.
What’s not to love?
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are organic compounds extracted from the flowers, roots and leaves of plants and are made up of small molecules able to penetrate our cells.
Steam distillation the most popular method of extracting the compounds, meaning the oils are super concentrated.
That is what gives them their amazing aroma.
How to use essential oils
Blend 4 to 6 drops into one tablespoon of a carrier oil, like sweet almond oil, and massage into the skin, or add these little drops of goodness to your bath or oil burner.
They can also be infused into the air via a diffuser, in a process known as aromatherapy.
A number of studies have found diffusing oils into the air provides many benefits.
