How to achieve Brodie Harper’s festive look

Create a simple and beautiful make up look for casual festive functions before upping the ante with some gold sparkle for evenings.

It’s hard not to get excited when the festive season is upon us.

Chemist Warehouse Beauty Break ambassador Brodie Harper loves this time of year and being able to get glammed up for all the social occasions.

“It is just such a fun time of year and everyone is happy and ready to celebrate,” Brodie says. “It’s nice to get your hair done, put on a pretty dress and have a glass of champagne.”

In our special The House of Wellness shoot, Brodie shows us how to achieve two different looks for Christmas this year.

Learn how to master a neutral, dewy look with soft waves for Christmas Day lunch, or embrace gold highlights and a tousled ponytail for a glam party look.

Christmas glow-getter

Facing a mirror, give a slight smile and apply pink blush to the apple of your cheeks using a blush brush. Start from the apple of the cheek and then brush outwards.

Pink blushes suit most skin tones, however if you already have pink cheeks, it is best to use a more peachy tone.

Lips

Use a raspberry lip gloss and apply to the lips. Add some sheer gloss to the centre of the lips to make them appear fuller.

Waves

Spray a heat-styling spray through dry hair, and then lightly blow-dry before pinning up the top half of your hair.

Start with the underneath layers and spray hairspray on a small section before you curl it around the curling wand. Work your way in sections to the top until all hair has been curled.

Once you’ve added the curls, use a smoothing brush to lightly mould the hair into a soft wave. Set with a final spray of hairspray.

Try: Luna Ceramic Curling Tong, $29.99; Maybelline Face Studio Master Contour Kit, $18.49; Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Super Natural, $19.49.

Bronze goddess

Lightly brush brows with a brow brush. Then use a brow gel or pencil and apply sparingly. Go with your natural brow shape and fill in any gaps to define them.

Bronze eyes

Start with a chocolate pencil and work across the upper lid before blending with a brush.

Apply bronze eyeshadow to the upper lid to the crease, to give depth. Then apply black eyeliner and smudge along both the upper and lower lid for impact.

Tousled ponytail

Use sea-salt spray throughout dry hair. Leave a triangle section at the crown of your head loose, then pull the rest of your hair into a mid-height ponytail and secure with a hair tie.

Add a volumising powder to the front section and play with the texture by teasing lightly with a comb, before combing back and securing the ends by wrapping around your ponytail.

Then use a curling wand to put some tight curls in the length of the ponytail. To finish, comb and tease out the ponytail and add volumising powder.

Try: Revlon Colorstay Not Just Nudes Eyeshadow Palette Passionate Nudes, $24.99; L’Oreal Brow Artist Xpert in 105 Brunette, $16.49; Schwarzkopf Extra Care Instant Volume Powder 10g, $7.99.
